Details of SC 8/156/7791
Reference: SC 8/156/7791
Description:
Petitioners: Senebrun, lord of Lesparre.
Name(s): lord of Lesparre, Senebrun
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: [Petition in 4 parts].1) The lord of Lesparre requests his right in the castle of Montignac which the lord of Lebret and the seneschal of Gascony have granted to the lord of Chastleoun.2) He requests, in compensation for his service and the destruction of part of his land by the French, 'la Padarie de Medoc' for him and his heirs, the king having granted it to him for life only.3) He requests payment of the wages of his men and the horses that he lost in the king's service, and for part of this payment to be made in England.4) He requests a letter to the pope to grant his brother a prebend in St Paul's, London, or in St Mary's [? Lincoln].1)
Nature of endorsement: It seems to the council that this is reasonable so let the seneschal and constable be ordered to call the king's proctor and others and examine the matter, and do right to the lord of Lesparre concerning the castle.2) If it pleases the king that he should hold it in this manner he should have letters of continuance.3) It is ordered to the constable that he be paid, though none is to be paid in England.4) Let it be done as it is requested.
Places mentioned: Lesparre-Medoc, [Guyenne, France]; Montignac, [Guyenne, France]; Medoc, [Guyenne, France]; Bordeaux, [Guyenne, France]; London; Lincoln, [Lincolnshire].
People mentioned: Lord of Lebret; Bernard de Lasparre; Hugh de Genena; Pope; Deacon Guillaume, brother of the petitioner; Lord of Chastleoun.
Note: The petition has been dated to? 1342-? 1360 as the original grant referred to in part 2 of the petition of the 'la Padarie de Medoc' dates to 1 June 1342 (16 Edw. III), so that the petition must post-date this (C 61/54 m.23). The hand of the document does not seem to allow for a date much beyond 1360.
Date: [? 1342-? 1350]
