Details of SC 8/156/7775
Reference: SC 8/156/7775
Description:
Petitioners: Margaret de Mortimer, widow of Edmund de Mortimer.
Name(s): de Mortimer, Margaret
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: Mortimer requests that she be granted dower from the lands in which her husband died seised, and that she can have one of the three castles in the same lands as women of the family have had in the past.
Nature of endorsement: If her husband died seised in fee of three castles, let one of them be assigned in dower because they are in Wales.
Places mentioned: Wales.
People mentioned: Edmund de Mortimer, late husband of the petitioner.
Note: The petition probably dates to c. 1304 as the petitioner was a widow by 1304, and she is unlikely to have delayed long in pursuit of her dower (CPR 1301-7, p.245; CCW 1244-1326, pp.234, 238). It is quite likely that the petition dates to after 19 June 1305 when the petitioner was granted her dower (CCR 1302-7, p.274).
Date: [c. 1304]
