Details of SC 8/150/7493
Reference: SC 8/150/7493
Description:
Petitioners: Roger Wylnehale of Lichfield, clerk.
Name(s): Wylnehale, Roger
Addressees: Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, Protector of England, and the lords of parliament.
Occupation: clerk
Nature of request: [This petition is damaged]Roger Wylnehale of Lichfield, clerk, states that one John Seynt Jones formerly of Lichfield, saddler, came with a large number of armed men and attacked, beat and badly wounded him; and they then fled the county. He has sued various writs to have security of the peace from John, but cannot, as he is not living continually in one place, and would rather quit the realm than give Roger such security. And thus he lies in wait for him, so that he is afraid to pursue his business. He asks that a writ might be sent to the Sheriff of Staffordshire to make proclamation that John is to [appear before the King] to find security of the peace for the petitioner and all others, or otherwise to forfeit his goods and chattels and [be put in exigent]. He also requests a writ to arrest John, in whatever county he might be found.
Nature of endorsement: [On face] By the Earl of Stafford: 13 February.[None on dorse]
Places mentioned: Lichfield, Staffordshire; Warwickshire.
People mentioned: Humphrey [of Lancaster], Duke of Gloucester; John Seynt Jones (St John), formerly of Lichfield, saddler; [Humphrey Stafford], Earl of Stafford.
Note: Tentatively dated to the 1428 session of the 1427-1428 parliament by the address, the mention of 13 February, and the fact that the attack took place on Monday, the feast of the Annunciation: the Annunciation fell on a Monday in 1426.
Date: [1428]
