Details of SC 8/150/7487
Reference: SC 8/150/7487
Description:
Petitioners: John Warde, esquire of the Duke of Gloucester.
Name(s): Warde, John
Addressees: Lords of parliament.
Nature of request: John Warde, esquire of the Duke of Gloucester, states that one Simon Bodenham, of London, vintner, was seised of certain lands and tenements in Denham for term of his wife's life, and that he and his wife granted their estate in these lands and tenements to him for a certain rent, and with Simon's aid, the petitioner purchased the reversion of these lands and tenements from one Richard Hungate for 150 marks. The release made by Richard of this reversion was delivered to Simon, and the money paid to Richard; but then Simon died, and his executors made away with the release, and sold the lands and tenements. John has been expelled with force and arms, and his goods and corn destroyed. He asks that he might be restored to his possession, and receive damages.
Nature of endorsement: [None]
Places mentioned: Denham, Buckinghamshire.
People mentioned: [Humphrey of Lancaster], Duke of Gloucester; Simon Bodenham of London, vintner; Richard Hungate.
Note: Tentatively dated on the guard to the parliament of May 1421, with reference to SC 8/24/1157-1161, which can be securely dated to this parliament. There seems to be no obvious connection, although the dating would be quite acceptable from the point of view of the hand.
Date: [? 1421]
