Details of SC 8/150/7477
Reference: SC 8/150/7477
Description:
Petitioners: Robert, Prior of Worksop.
Name(s): Robert
Addressees: King and council.
Occupation: Prior of Worksop
Nature of request: Robert, Prior of Worksop, states that when John de Vescy, Constance de Berne and others wrongly disseised his predecessor, John de Retford, of a mill in Gringley, he brought an assize of novel disseisin, and the inquisition found in his favour. But the justices would not bring judgment because the reversion of the mill, after Constance's death, belonged to the King. The mill has been withheld from him and his predecessors since then, and is now in the King's hand, as of his demesne right. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement: Coram rege.He is to have a writ to have the record and process brought before the justices of the King's Bench; and when they have been seen and examined there, the King is to be informed.
Places mentioned: Worksop, [Nottinghamshire]; Gringley on the Hill, Nottinghamshire.
People mentioned: John de Vescy; Constance de Berne (Bierne); Henry de Alemayne (Almaine); Edward [I], King of England; John de Retford, Prior of Worksop.
Note: SC 8/8/399A is dated at Chippenham on 20 October 1325, and would seem to be a response to the petition edited in Rot. Parl. Vol. I p.440a (no.42). This petition mentions the record and process being before the justices, presumably in response to SC 8/150/7477: this would date SC 8/150/7477 to c. 1324.
Date: [c. 1324]
