Petitioners: Richard Wary and Alice Wary his wife.

Nature of request: The petitioners state that they had sued writs of plea of land in Devon, before William de Bereford and his companions, but that during their suit Robert Bendyn, Sheriff of Devon, had purchased the tenements in question, so that they cannot pursue their writs, and is threatening them if they continue their suit. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement: They are to have writs against the Sheriff, as the King's minister, of champerty of land which he acquired while the plea was pending, according to the form of the statute. And with regard to the writs which have not been returned, they are to sue in Chancery, and have the customary remedy from those who refuse to grant the bill.
