Reference: SC 8/147/7334
Description:
Petitioners: William de Walton and Robert Burre, merchants.
Name(s): de Walton; Burre, William; Robert
Addressees: King and council.
Occupation: merchants
Nature of request: William de Walton and Robert Burre, merchants, state that they have letters of obligation of John II, Duke of Brabant, for a debt that he owes them, the transcript of which is sewn to this petition, and that they have often sued to the present Duke of Brabant with letters from the King for payment of this debt, but that he has continually delayed. They request that arrest be made of goods to the sum of their debt, from people of the power of the Duke coming to England, in view of their poverty and the twenty-two years that they have sued for payment.
Nature of endorsement: [None]
Places mentioned: Brabant.
People mentioned: John [III], Duke of Brabant; John [II], Duke of Brabant.
Note: The letters of obligation of John II, Duke of Brabant, are dated on the feast of St Mary Magdalene (22 July) 1300, and the petition speaks of a suit of twenty-two years, so it would seem to date from c. 1322.
Date: [c. 1322]
