Reference: SC 8/124/6178
Description:
Petitioners: Mayor, citizens and commonalty of Lincoln.
Addressees: King.
Nature of request: The people of Lincoln request that the king issue a commission to Roos and Beaumont that they summon Tailboys and Lutterell to keep the peace. They state that Tailboys came to Lincoln with an armed force to attack Chaworth, and when the sheriffs sought to make him keep the peace, they assaulted the sheriffs and their men, killing two men and injuring others. With the assistance of Lutterell, Tailboys and his men then lay in ambush in various places, attacking men of the city, so that the citizens dare not go to Hull and Boston or elsewhere to trade their wool, to the impoverishment of the city and the damage of the king's customs revenue and fee farm.
Nature of endorsement: [None]
Places mentioned: Lincoln, [Lincolnshire]; Lincolnshire; Kingston upon Hull, [East Riding of Yorkshire]; Boston, [Lincolnshire].

Note: The resultant commission was issued on 1 May 1411.
