Reference: SC 8/124/6176
Description:
Petitioners: Henry de Lancaster.
Name(s): de Lancaster, Henry
Addressees: King and Council.
Nature of request: Henry de Lancaster makes three requests.1) He requests that the chancellor inspect inquisitions returned into Chancery under the king's father into lands and fees held in Cornwall and Devon by Patrick de Chaworth. These lands should have passed to him by the right of his wife Maud, but are in the king's hands. He asks for them to be restored.2) He seeks the restoration of land in Walmore, claiming that it had been granted to his father by Edward I as part of the manor of Rodley, but that the constable of St Briavels had taken it to the King's use, claiming it was part of the Forest of Dean.3) He seeks the removal of a fishing weir from the River Wye, which is causing damage and disruption to boats using the river.1)
Nature of endorsement: Prosecute in Chancery that the inquisitions be viewed and justice done according to the customs of the Chancery.2) The Keeper of the forest is ordered that, in the presence of the present constable of St Briavels and Henry de Lancaster, he make inquiry into this seizure, and whose hands it is in and why, etc, and certify the findings to the king.3) Assign two men of law to enquire by whom the fishing weir was erected, etc., and to certify their findings to the king.Assigned to Nicholas de Kyngeston and Henry de Penebrigg.
