Catalogue description Home Office: Statistical Branch: Files (R Series) and Registers

This series contains files of the Home Office Statistical Branch covering the period 1834-1957, as well as registers of correspondence for the period 1929-1958.

The subjects covered relate to the responsibilities of the Statistical Branch, particularly for the collation and publication of judicial, criminal and licensing statistics.

The R series of files was superseded in 1959.

Later records of the Statistical Branch, including some papers dating from 1957, are contained in the STA series files in HO 332
