Report of Nash Grose on a petition from Mr William Baker on behalf of Thomas Wittey/Thomas Whittey convicted at the 'last' Hertfordshire Assizes, for stealing a sheep, property of Richard -----. The crime was prevalent in the county and the prisoner was left as an example. Grounds for clemency: has a wife and 4 young children (they are prepared to go to Botany Bay with him). Initial sentence: death. Recommendation: 7 years transportation. Folios 95-97.
