Description:
Petitioners: Avelyne Giffard, widow of John Giffard of Brimpsfield.
Name(s): Giffard, Avelyne
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: Giffard requests that she be assigned certain lands so that she can live as the lands that were late her husband's, both those that were purchased in which was jointly enfeoffed, and those of his inheritance, have been taken into the king's hand.
Nature of endorsement: She should come into Chancery and declare what tenement she demands and the joint feoffment, and let the truth of the inquisition be shown and the king certified.Coram domino rege.
Places mentioned: Brimpsfield, [Gloucestershire].
People mentioned: John Giffard of Brimpsfield, late husband of the petitioner.
Note: The petition is clearly in the aftermath of the revolt of Thomas of Lancaster, but would appear to date to 1323 as the petitioner's joint enfeoffment with her late husband of the manor of King's Stanley in Gloucestershire was the subject of an inquisition in Easter 1323, and the petitioner received restoration of that manor on 28 May 1323 (CIM 1307-49, no.579; CCR 1318-23, pp.651-2).
Date: [1323]
