Details of SC 8/112/5563
Reference: SC 8/112/5563
Description:
Petitioners: John le Furmeri (Furmery), son of William le Furmery.
Name(s): Furmeri (Furmery), John
Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: Furmeri requests grace as his father was excluded from his inheritance in High Crosby and Dearham by the count of Aumale, the chief lord, as his father died while he was in Ireland, and when he returned the earl refused to deliver the lands to him. After protracted suits and petitions delayed by the death of the count and Isabel de Forz the lands are now in the king's hand. The petitioner requested remedy and St John was ordered to hold an enquiry but died before it could be done.
Nature of endorsement: The form of the commission to St John, now dead, for an enquiry are to be viewed in Chancery, and let a similar commission be made to D'Eyncourt and Lisle, and they are to certify the king on what they find. And if the orders on this to St John are insufficient they are to be changed according to the discretion of the chancellor etc.
Places mentioned: High Crosby, Cumberland; Dearham, Cumberland.
People mentioned: John [le Furmeri (Furmery)], grandfather of the petitioner; William [le Furmeri (Furmery)], son and heir of John le Furmery; William de Fortiz (Forz), Count of Aumale; Isabel de Fortiz (Forz), Countess of Aumale; Hugh de Cressingham, Justice of Pleas; John de Saynt Johan (St John); Edmund de Eyncourt (D'Eyncourt); John de Insula (Lisle).
Note: The petition dates to 1305 as the commission to D'Eyncourt and Lisle was issued on 20 October 1305 (SC 8/2/59). The commission issued to St John referred to in the petition dates to 3 August 1302 and the petition was made as a consequence of the failure of St John to execute his commission before his death (SC 8/258/12872).
Date: [1305]
