Note: | The petitioner is evidently Eleanor, widow of Robert de Ferrers, Earl of Derby, and since Robert is referred to as having died recently, presumably the petition dates to shortly after his death in 1279. Given that the endorsement refers to a response from 'Lord Edmund', evidently Edmund of Lancaster, brother of Edward I, it must pre-date his death in 1296, and also clearly pre-dates John de Ferrers's coming of age in 1293 (Complete Peerage, V, p.306). The William le Botiler mentioned as having died may be the man of that name who died in 1283 (CIPM, vol.II, no.529). | ||||||||||||||
