Newcastle to Cumberland: he encloses a copy of a letter from [Archibald Campbell] the duke of Argyll, with particulars of the young pretender's landing. Cope is assembling troops. Transports for 7,000 men have been ordered to Veere or Flushing. Importance of Antwerp for communication by sea. Cumberland should be ready to send the detachment at short notice. The yachts have been ordered for the king's return to England. He has written to Trevor about the 6,000 troops the Dutch are contracted to supply. Dated (OS) at Whitehall. ff. 392-395 |
