Cumberland to Newcastle: he has sent Crauford and Mordaunt to command the British battalions in Ostend. His pleasure that the lords justices have approved his plan of sending transports to Flushing, and at the arrival of reinforcements and ordnance at Ostend. Failure to inundate Ostend. He thinks the French may be sending a detachment to the Rhine, as he has heard that the French king is to return to Versailles. He has sent a copy of Belle-Isle's declaration to Saxe. Dated at camp at Vilvoorde. PS. that he encloses copies of his correspondence with Saxe [on the exchange of prisoners]. Provision of arms and clothing for them. Successful skirmish at Sellick, near Brussels. ff. 255-258 |
