Description:
Petitioners: Henry of Lancaster, Earl of Lancaster.

Addressees: King and council.
Nature of request: The petitioner came before the king and his council at York on the quindene of the nativity of St John the Baptist year sixteen of the king and stated that the king's grandfather granted various lands to the petitioner's father of which the petitioner is the next heir. He asked the king to grant him these lands now in the king's hands and the charters concerning them that are also in the king's custody. The king answered that Edmund had another son called Thomas, whom the petitioner omitted to mention in his petition on account of the king's judgement. As to this petition he responded that it is in lieu of a writ to the common law and that the petitioner should bring such a writ. The petitioner accepted the king's advice and would return to the matter at the quindene of Michaelmas next.
