Reference: SC 8/53/2601
Description:
Petitioners: Roger de Horseley (Horsley), constable of Bamburgh castle
Name(s): de Horseley (Horsley), Roger
Addressees: King and council
Occupation: constable of Bamburgh castle
Nature of request: Roger de Horseley requests a writ of surcease to the Sheriff of Northumberland against William le Corouner, who is impleading his under-bailiffs for destroying a ditch that he built to enclose his lands, in prejudice of the king's rights of agistment and herbage there.
Nature of endorsement: The Sheriff is to be ordered that if he can establish that this business touches the king's right, then he is to proceed in a sufficiently careful and prudent fashion, so that prejudice does not come to the lord king.
Places mentioned: Bamburgh, [Northumberland]
People mentioned: William le Corouner (Coroner); Hugh de Bedenhale (Beadnell), Under-bailiff of the Constable of Bamburgh castle; Robert Blays, Under-bailiff of the Constable of Bamburgh castle
Note: Roger de Horseley was Constable of Bamburgh castle twice, as Northumberland Petitions no.47, pp.61-3 points out. This petition is dated there to 1314-1316, during his first appointment, for reasons that do not seem immediately clear. It is dated on the guard to '? 1318 seq.' with reference to CFR 1307-19 p.376 - Roger de Horseley's second appointment, dated at York, 6 October 1318.
Date: [1314-1318]
