Details of SC 8/39/1916
Reference: SC 8/39/1916
Description:
Petitioners: John de Usk, Abbot of Chertsey; Convent of Chertsey.
Name(s): de Usk, John
Addressees: King and council
Occupation: Abbot of Chertsey
Nature of request: The petitioners state that at the last parliament they presented concerning a road between the vill of Egham and 'la Huith' of Egham of the distance of a league, of which they are impeached wrongly by the malice of their adversaries for its repair. It was agreed by the king and all the lords in parliament that the commission be made to sufficient people to go in person and inform and advice themselves on this. This has not been done so the petitioners request that the king consider their poverty and discharge them of the repair and grant a supersedeas until the next parliament, and ordain that the commissioners be charged to inquire and certify the truth at the next parliament.
Nature of endorsement: The king with the assent of the prelates and lords in parliament has granted this petition in all points.
Places mentioned: Egham, [Surrey]; Le Huith de Eggeham (Hythe), [Surrey].
People mentioned: William Rikhill.
Note: The petition has been tentatively dated to 1393 on the basis that the petition refers to a commission that had been ordered but not taken, and it asks for the matter to be postponed. It therefore seems likely that this places this between the date of the two commissions in 1392 and 1394 (CPR 1391-6, pp.165, 432).
Date: [? 1393]
