Reference: SC 8/36/1766
Description:
Petitioners: John Brian, son and heir of William Brian of Barton upon Humber
Name(s): Brian, John
Addressees: King and council
Nature of request: Brian states that Hugh Horne granted lands in Barton upon Humber to Robert Brian and his wife and the heirs of their bodies. The land eventually descended to William Brian as heir, and was seized into the hand of the king by his outlawry. Brian requests that a suitable remedy be ordained for him as son and heir entail of William Brian.
Nature of endorsement: [None].
Places mentioned: Barton upon Humber, [Lincolnshire]
People mentioned: William Bryan (Brian) of Barton upon Humber; Hugh Horne of Barton upon Humber; Robert Bryan (Brian); Matilda [Brian (Bryan)], wife of Robert Brian; John Bryan (Brian), son and heir of Robert and Matilda Brian, father of William Brian.
Note: Dated on the dorse to? 1376 with reference to SC 8/91/4512 and SC 8/91/4513. The attribution is not secure, though the lands had certainly forfeited by 18 November 1376 when they were granted to one William Rattescroft (CPR 1374-7, p.385).
