Details of SC 8/29/1401
Reference: SC 8/29/1401
Description:
Petitioners: John de Burley, son and heir of Roger de Burley.
Name(s): de Burley, John
Addressees: King.
Nature of request: John de Burley, son and heir of Roger de Burley, kinsman and heir of Simon de Burley, asks the king to grant in the present parliament that the judgment brought against Simon de Burley in the parliament held at Westminster in the eleventh year of Richard II be reversed; and that he might be restored to Simon's possessions, and able to enter them without suing a scire facias.
Nature of endorsement: This petition was delivered by the King to the Clerk of Parliament, charging him to make another petition on this subject, according to the tenor of William de Fulthorp's petition, and to make a similar reply to it, as appears from the petition attached to this.
Places mentioned: Westminster.
People mentioned: Roger de Burley, father of petitioner; Simon de Burley, knight, kinsman of petitioner; William de Fulthorp.
Note: The wording of this petition is very similar to that of the petition enrolled on the roll of the parliament held at Westminster in January, 2 Henry IV (1401) (Rot. Parl. III p.464a-b, but its response is different: more like that of SC 8/22/1073, the petition drawn up as a result of the response to this one, although Rot. Parl. III p.464a-b adds a large series of exceptions. The petition from the 1401 parliament would however seem to be contemporary with this petition and SC 8/22/1073: perhaps yet another version? The matter clearly dragged on: Rot. Parl. vol. III pp.537b-538b is from the parliament of January 5 Henry IV (1404).CPR 1401-5 pp.86-87 is dated at Westminster, 6 April 1402.CPR 1401-5 p.122 is dated at Westminster, 23 September 1402.CPR 1399-1401 p.517 is dated at Westminster, 20 May 1401.
Date: [c. 1401]
