Marlborough to Boyle: the siege is under way and the artillery is coming up the Scheldt. Villars has not moved his army, but has tried to send reinforcements into the town. He encloses a copy of what he wrote to the states general about the augmentation of 10,000 men. [SP 87/5/9], and another to a minister [Keysersfelt] of the elector of Trier [SP 87/5/10]. Count Sinzendorf has gone to Brussels, and Marlborough has written to him about the election of the princess of Holstein as abbess of Quedlinburg. The Dutch are willing to send ships to prevent corn entering France. He will concert with the states general about the British money to encourage French deserters. Appointment of a new ambassador to Vienna. Pension for M. Flotard. The king of Prussia thinks his interests were neglected in the preliminary treaty. Dated at camp before Tournai. PS. requesting that Davenant attend the elector of Hanover. ff. 14-17 |
