Marlborough to Boyle: Robinson reports the French have only three or four small frigates in the Baltic. Marlborough encloses a copy of his letter [SP 87/5/3]. Sir John Norris has arrived off Ostend with his squadron, and Marlborough and Lord Townsend will press the Dutch to send a squadron to the channel. Release of the bishop of Lübeck. The Dutch are willing to encourage French deserters provided the queen will meet half the expense. He encloses a letter from the city of Augsburg requesting release from the extortions of the French, and another from the states general concerning M. Flotard. He and Prince Eugene will go to Courtrai and Lille. French destruction of forage. Dated at Ghent. ff. 3, 4 |
