Marlborough to Boyle: he sent a parley to Bruges, to which M. Grimaldi replied that he must follow the orders of the duke of Bavaria and Marshal de Boufflers; however the French garrison retired during the night, and allied troops will take possession of the town next day as their winter quarters. The French marched out of Ghent the previous day. He and Prince Eugene are going to The Hague to confer with the states [general]. Dated at Ghent. ff. 256, 257
