Description:

To ? from van den Burgh, Muscovite resident in the Netherlands: he had hoped on his return to find the letters Marlborough had promised him, but was disappointed. He wishes a positive response from Marlborough so that he can report to the court and the ambassador. The queen's letter recognizing King Stanislaus [of Poland] is prejudicial to the czar's interest and could have consequences for Englishmen trading with Russia. The consequences would be severe for the allies in general and the emperor [Joseph I] in particular. ff. 97, 98
