Description: |
Extract of a letter from [Grand] Pensionary Heinsius to Marlborough [in French]: he has received from Don Quiros a form of the oath of fidelity to the king [Charles II of Spain]. Since the allies have not delivered the low countries over to the king, he does not see how the oath can be. Dated at The Hague. Marlborough's reply [in English]: all persons in office have taken the oath, and it were well if it were administered to all others, rather than leave them under their oath to the duke of Anjou [Philip V of Spain]. He has referred the subject to England. Dated at camp at Soignies. ff. 716, 717 |
