Marlborough to Harley: he will defer replying to the letter of the states [general] regarding the Hungarian uprising. He is surprised at the [grand] pensionary's response to [Hans Kaspar von] Bothner, [the elector of Hanover's minister at The Hague]. Naples has submitted to the Germans, and four Spanish regiments have capitulated to the count de Thaun. The duke of Savoy has crossed the Var, and 8,000 men are marching on Antibes. The imperial court is not averse to sending troops to Spain, but will require Britain and the Netherlands to pay for them.
