Description:

Marlborough to Count Wratislaw: the [grand] pensionary has announced the news of the defeat in Spain [Almanza], and a deputation of the states [general] has urged prompt action to save Spain (an invasion of Provence and the Dauphiné instead of the Naples expedition). The Dutch minister [at Vienna] will represent this to the court. He urges Wratislaw to press the emperor [Joseph I] to act [on the Rhine], so that all the burden may not fall here.
