Description: |
The states general of the united provinces of the Netherlands to Marlborough: M. Geldermalsen has written to them of Prince Louis' retreat and recommended assembling the Hanoverian and Hessian troops from their winter quarters. Since circumstances have changed with the loss of Hagenau, the states propose to bear the costs of forage for troops in their pay for the rest of the month, and invite the English to do likewise. They suggest that Geldermalsen be given a free hand with the Hessian troops on the Rhine for a few days, in case of emergency, and invite Marlborough to write to him with his thoughts on the subject. There are reports that Marcin is heading for the low countries with enemy German troops. Dated at The Hague. ff. 411,412 |
