Description:

Thomas Bucknall, Master Shipwright, Portsmouth. The Carpenter informs me the ballast was put on the Asia which was supplied with ballast at her launch in May 1764 and the permission of the Master Attendant was sought. The Clerk of the Survey signed a note to supply the Asia. When the Gibraltar was undocked last July, the Carpenter was ordered to load it with iron ballast and some scavelmen were ordered to assist but the Carpenter said the ballast was missing from the north side of the great basin and he should apply to the storekeeper for more
