Title: Local Government Board and successors: Housing and Town Planning Department and successors: Planning Schemes, Maps and Plans
Description:

This series comprises maps and plans related to planning schemes.

Date: 1905-1951
Arrangement:

These maps are grouped into four sequences, reflecting different types of authority responsible for the planning schemes:

  • County Councils (local authorities 651 to 713);
  • County Borough, Borough and Urban District Councils (local authorities 714 to 1869);
  • Rural District Councils (local authorities 1870 to 2518);
  • Joint Committees (local authorities JC-1 to JC-356).

Each sequence is in local authority number order; except for the Joint Committees, these numbers mainly follow alphabetical order. Some maps for Joint Committees are out of sequence at the end of the series. There are no maps for some local authorities.

Maps relating to a particular local authority are in order of planning scheme number. These numbers usually start from 501 onwards. In some cases there is more than one map for the same scheme. The former departmental references usually include the letter 'C' followed by a number, which may indicate the type of map:

  • C.1: Resolution map;
  • C.2: Preliminary statement map;
  • C.3: Submitted scheme map;
  • C.4: [Not known];
  • C.5: Ownership map.
