Branch 4 of the Computers Division was responsible for general sponsorship of the computer industry including ICL. The branch also had responsibility for computer aided design, computing standards and computing privacy. As the Information Technology Division of the Department of Industry, it was also given the responsibility for sponsoring information technology (IT) and promoting awareness of IT.
