This series contains personal papers of the following senior officers of the Nature Conservancy:

  • (Edward) Max Nicholson, Director-General of the Nature Conservancy 1952-1966.
  • Jamie V Johnstone, a Nature Conservancy Land Agent, who took part in a project called 'The Countryside in 1970'. Its brief was to exchange views and information to feed into a nation-wide policy for the future conservation of the countryside.
  • Dr Martin George, the Nature Conservancy Deputy Regional Officer for East Anglia, who went to Jordan in 1965 on behalf of the International Biological Programme. There he helped to prepare a management plan for the Azraq Desert National Park.
  • Robert Edward Boote, appointed as the first Director General of the newly created Nature Conservancy Council in 1973. Prior to this he had worked for the Nature Conservancy and had been instrumental in a major revision of its committees.
  • Derek Ratcliffe, who was appointed as Chief Scientist of the Nature Conservancy Council following its creation in 1973.
  • Richard Charles Steele, Director General of the Nature Conservancy Council, 1980-1988
