This series contain registers of the Chinese Secretary's correspondence. FO 932/1-46 covers the correspondence between the British Legation (later Embassy) at Peking and, prior to its establishment, other British representatives in Hong Kong and China from 1840, and the Chinese authorities, successively Imperial Commissioners and others, the Tsungli Yamen (1861-1900) and the Waiwupu or from 1912 Waichiaopu (the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Latterly some correspondence was direct with other Chinese Ministries, such as those of Finance and Communications.

FO 932/47-51 covers correspondence between the Dean of the Peking Diplomatic Body and the Chinese authorities from 1900 to 1920. FO 932/52 covers correspondence of the Legation's Consular Section with the Chinese, 1916-1921 and FO 932/53 is an odd register/index to miscellaneous documents held in the Chinese Secretary's office.
