Between 1804 and 1836, the War and Colonial Department was responsible for supervision of the United Kingdom's consuls in Morocco, Tunis, Tripoli and Algiers (the Home Office having previously had responsibility for the Barbary States consuls). In 1836 departmental responsibility passed to the Foreign Office. |
