Description:

Folio 9: Stormont to Weymouth. De la Haye, a merchant of Le Havre, reports an embargo placed on French ships. A report from St. Malo confirms this. Beaumarchais has been told by an inspector of the marine that 15 warships are to sail from Toulon as soon as possible and 8 frigates from Brest, these last to convoy troops. Stormont doubts the reliability of this intelligence, as also of a report that 10,000 men are to be sent secretly to Cadiz, intended for the West Indies. A company of 4 merchants has joined La Tour to buy the frigates at Civita Vecchia in order to cruise against Britain. D'Eon has been received by Maurepas and Vergennes in uniform and is to be introduced to the king and queen in woman's clothes.
