Title: Medical Research Council: Registered Files, Policy Matters (A Series)
Description:

This series contains registered files of the Medical Research Council's (MRC) dealing with policy matters.

The files selected cover a wide range of topics such as MRC constitution, powers and membership, minutes, correspondence, papers and reports of Council meetings, and of Council committees. There are reports of Council visits, and papers concerning research projects, and research policy. A number of files deal with MRC relations with other institutions and organisations such as the NHS, the Tropical Medicine Research Board, and the Public Health Laboratory Service Board, and relations overseas. Other files concern the development of the Clinical Research Board and the Biological Research Board, MRC legal proceedings and bequests to the MRC, parliamentary questions, grants and estimates, and MRC input to Government research initiatives and proposals for state research and development, (such as the 'Framework for Government Research and Development' (Rothschild Report) of 1971). Many files concern MRC staff matters (industrial relations, recruitment, training, pay and conditions of service, staffing policy) and statistics and tables of staff numbers and requirements. Other files cover awards of honours, bursaries, scholarships and fellowships, press conferences and public relations, MRC publications, and contracts and patent agreements.
