Description:

Many of the files relate to individual senior members of the Medical Research Committee and Medical Research Council, and give details of career history, remuneration and pensions and superannuation arrangements memorials and obituaries. Other files relate to general matters of staffing and illustrate some of the recruitment, staff organisation and disciplinary procedures. Many files contain policy information, and give details of major policy decisions during the First World War and the 1920s. Some files concern the relationship of the Medical Research Committee and Medical Research Council with other medical institutions, hospitals, and organisations, such as the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, St Mary's Hospital Paddington, Cambridge University, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the University Grants Committee. Other files give details of research projects and the funding of medical research. Specific topics covered include medical research during the First World War, and the response of the Medical Research Council to the anti-vivisection movements of the first half of this century.
