From October 1968, the records are those of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Far Eastern Department, whose responsibilities also included external relations of Hong Kong (internal affairs being managed by a separate Hong Kong Department). |

The Far Eastern Department of the Foreign Office continued with largely unaltered functions under the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, except for the addition of responsibility for external relations of Hong Kong. This responsibility was later returned to the Hong Kong Department. The Far Eastern Department became the Far Eastern and Pacific Department in 1994. |
