Administrative / biographical background: |
The Examinations Committee was set up by the Schools Council for the Curriculum and Examinations, and was continued under the Secondary Examinations Council after the winding up of the Schools Council in 1984. Together with its subject-based standing committees and working groups, the Examinations Committee was responsible for approving syllabuses and assessing 'O' level and 'A' level results. It also assisted with the introduction and development of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). The Committee is believed to have continued after the Council was abolished in 1988, working to the Schools Examination and Assessment Council. |
