This series contains files created by the Secretary to the Schools Council for Curriculum and Examinations. The files contain information on various policy decisions, correspondence between the Schools Council and the Department of Education and Science, the Council's submissions and reactions to the various reviews carried out of its functions, details of the various projects and programmes set up by the Council, organisational matters and information on its final abolition and transfer of responsibilities to the Secondary Examinations Council and the School Curriculum Development Committee.

Records not selected for permanent preservation were given to the Institute of Education in September 1986.
