This series contains a numbered series of files raised and used in the Private Office of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education and Science. The files include papers relating to Bills, briefing notes for ministers on a wide variety of subjects and a small amount of ministerial correspondence. The subjects covered include the proposed development of education following the Second World War and background to the 1944 Education Act, the Ministry's relationship with local education authorities and the future of universities. In addition an unnumbered series of files was kept consisting mainly of committee papers, including some relating to the Advisory Council for Education in England and the Advisory Council for Education in Wales, sets of working papers and miscellaneous correspondence. |
