Title: | Exchequer: King's Remembrancer: Ancient Deeds, Series RS |
Description: |
This series is made up of receipts held by the King's Remembrancer's Office which were separated from the main series of deeds in E 210 on account of their fine seals. The series consists of receipts for expenditure of Crown revenue, which were obtained by Crown receivers and brought to Exchequer audits as proof that funds had been disbursed. Payments were made to individuals supplying goods or services to the King and to the Crown's creditors, annuitants, pensioners, office-bearers and employees. The documents relate to Crown expenditure throughout the kingdom and also to outgoings concerning English operations in Scotland, France and Ireland. Some of them may have been put to use as evidence in legal proceedings before the Court of the Exchequer or in investigations conducted by the King's Remembrancer's Office into defaulting accountants. Most of the receipts are of 14th and 15th century date. The series is arranged haphazardly and is unindexed. |
