Title: | Exchequer: King's Remembrancer: Entry Books of Writs |
Description: |
This series consists of entry books of writs, commissions, and injunctions issued both in equity and revenue causes on the King's Remembrancer's side of the Exchequer. The books do not include subpoenas, which were entered in separate registers. Entries include commissions of rebellion; special commissions; commissions to take bails and recognisances; commissions to audit tax accounts; and commissions to take answers and depositions in equity. Writs include scire facias, fieri facias, extent, privilege, sale of goods, delivery, and habeas corpus. The county in which the action arose was entered in the margin, as was the name of the Exchequer clerk responsible. All entries specify precisely the nature of the instrument being issued. Some entries in revenue causes give an indication of the nature of the information or action; and in the case of writs of delivery the nature of the goods seized is generally specified. Most books give some indication of the payment of fees, or of admission in forma pauperis. |
