Title: | Exchequer: King's Remembrancer: Exhibits |
Description: |
This series contains exhibits produced in support of equity proceedings heard in the Court of Exchequer. The documents include correspondence, accounts, surveys, deeds, maps, and a miscellany of other documents touching on a wide range of topics, including commercial, maritime, testamentary, title and tithe disputes. Some commercial and maritime suits relate to the conduct of trade not only within Europe but also with the West Indies, the Americas, Africa and the Far East. Associated documents may comprise not only accounts, ledgers and journals but also correspondence and newsletters which include material of political, as well as economic, interest. The series provides detailed trading accounts and business archives for a number of trades and professions, including the brewing industry, mines, ironworks, canal and water companies, wine merchants, coaching enterprises, drapers, and the legal and medical professions. Suits arising from debt provide cultural and social evidence, such as a physician's notebook, documents concerning the tasks of teaching and transposition performed by an Italian music master, and garden and household accounts. The series also includes papers and notebooks of the Clerks of the Exchequer Office and other strays. |
