Records of conferences, committees and councils relating to British involvement in various issues, mainly negotiations of post war settlements.

Archives of British delegations to some international conferences have been placed in separate series:

  • Potsdam Conference, 1945, FO 934

Records of the International Committee for the Application of the Agreement regarding Non-Intervention in Spain (Plymouth Committee), 1936-1939 are in FO 849, those of the Intergovernmental Committee on Political Refugees (Berenger Committee) and 1938 are in FO 919

Records of the Council of Foreign Ministers are in FO 1086

Administrative / biographical background:

The Foreign Office participated in international conferences and in multilateral committees or councils. Conferences, in particular were often held in the aftermath of a war in order for treaties to be drawn up. Many twentieth century conferences involved heads of state and chiefs of the armed forces as well as diplomatic representation from the Foreign Office.
