This series consists of depositions of witnesses in criminal proceedings used in evidence in court proceedings at Durham Assizes. From 1843 onwards, depositions were filed separately from indictments. The depositions relate to cases of major indictable offences, mainly murder, with a few concerning riot.
Depositions for each year are separately bundled, and contained in two boxes.
