Administrative / biographical background:

Industry Division was responsible for encouraging the undertaking of research within industry, for supporting this through research associations, and for servicing the Industrial Grants Committee of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. These files in the D series were raised and originally used by the Industry Division of Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR). After the Ministry of Technology (Mintech) absorbed the industrial elements of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research on April 1 1965 only a small amount of material was added to the files, probably by the Research Associations Branch.
