The Flight Department, formed in 1946, is responsible for making sure that the flight characteristics, which includes noise levels and all weather operations capability, of all aircraft on the British register, are to the standards required by the relevant legislation. Compliance with these standards is required for the initial issue of a Certificate of Airworthiness and for the aircraft to continue in service.
