From July 1961, when the Colombo Plan Department was absorbed into the new Department of Technical Co-operation, matters relating to the Commonwealth and the Colombo plan were dealt with Economic Relations Department II, along with general development and aid and economic matters relating to the 'new' Commonwealth. Economic Relations Department I dealt with relations with the 'old' Commonwealth.
